I never understood this behaviour. I start up an app. I then go to the dock, right-click on the app and chose 'quit'. The app icon stays on the dock. Then I right-click on the app again, and then choose 'options' and then choose 'remove from dock'. The the icon disappears. Why does the icon does not disappear when I 'quit' the app? For some apps this happens, for others it does not. What makes a certain app so special that it does not disappear when 'quit' the app and needs me to 'remove from dock'. I want that all app icons disappear from the dock when I quit the app. I never understood this.

Update 2: As of the 1.082 release, the appearance of the app in the dock has all but disappeared when triggering searches via the cli. In order to hide the recently used apps from the Dock on your Mac, first launch the System Preferences app (it can be found in the Apple menu on the top left of your screen). Go to the Dock preference panel then uncheck the option that reads 'Show recent applications in Dock'. Recent apps will then stop appearing in the Dock.

In previous versions of macOS, the app icon would leave the dock when you quit the app. MacOS Mojave now has a recents section in the Dock, which shows the three most recent apps you've launched, which are not permanently stored in the Dock.
