A lot of dock apps, such as Mail, Reminders and many more have small icons in there dock icons indicating how many unread messages you have to deal with. If there are only a couple of reminders this isn’t too bad. Best app to open rar files on mac. However, after a while these numbers can balloon and become quite annoying. Turning off the number is very simple, it is a simple preference change within System Preferences. Within one click you can remove the number and have a simple dock icon instead.

I have 28 mail messages to read. This annoying number can be turned off.

Removing The Dock Numbers

To remove the numbers from dock icons open System Preferences. Navigate to the Notifications preference pane. From the right hand column select the app you want to remove the numbers from.

Within the options there will be an option entitled ‘Badge app icon’, uncheck this option to remove the dock icon numbers.

This simple option removes the number from dock icons.

Simply go down the list on the right hand side to remove the numbers. Calendar, Face Time, Game Centre, Mail, Messages, Reminders, Safari, Google Chrome, Photo Stream and any other apps that appear in the list will probably have an option. If it isn’t in the list, but has a dock icon the preference within the app will probably have a check box option.

It is only a simple check box option. However, it does take a little bit of finding, and isn’t the best named command.
